The modern constellation Caelum, the Engraving Tool, lies to the west and a bit south of Columba and down from an eastern bend in Eridanus. Alpha Caeli is the brightest star down and to the right of center. It appears a bit fainter than Gamma Caeli (just up from center) because of dimming by the Earth's atmosphere close to the horizon. |
