The Constellations of Northern Winter, Southern Summer

Map 3 shows the constellations of northern winter, southern summer for 8:30 PM for the month at the top between declinations 60 degrees north and 60 degrees south from right ascension 0h 30m to 7h 30m. For each hour thereafter, the sky shifts one hour to the right The ecliptic reaches the Summer Solstice 23.4 degrees north of the celestial equator at upper left between Gemini and Taurus. The faintest part of the Milky Way, centered on the Galactic Equator, the mid-line of the Galaxy, runs from upper right to lower left. (The constellation outlines are not necessarily the same as those on the photographs in the Stars pages.)

Missing Constellations

Caelum: Between Eridanus and Columba.
Horologium: Between southern Eridanus and Dorado.
Lynx: Northeast of Auriga and Gemini.
Monoceros: East of Orion to south of Canis Minor.
