We look through the shutter of the 2.3-meter telescope of Steward Observatory at the dome
of the four-meter telescope atop Kitt Peak in Arizona.
Polaris (the luminary of Ursa Minor), its little "
Engagement Ring" just above it, Delta Ursae Minoris below, shines toward
the bottom of the picture. 2 UMi, orphaned in
Cepheus, lies up and to the left of Polaris. With the main figure of
Camelopardalis near the top
(Alpha Cam the left-hand star of
the two nearly obscured by the telescope's framework, Gamma Cam down and to the left)
the photo features a detailed view of the
northern part of the constellation, which is seen nearly overhead, north down and a
bit to the right. (Beta Cam is completely hidden toward upper right.)
