SOUTH CENTRAL SCORPIUS

South-central Scorpius features one of the most luminous stars of the Galzxy, Zeta-1 Scorpii. The left hand star, Zeta-2 Scorpii, is much closer and merely lies along the line of sight. Immediately above Zeta Scorpii is the compact cluster NGC 6231, and up and to the left of that is the large cluster H12. The "optical" (line-of-sight) double at the top is Mu Scorpii, and toward the bottom left is Eta Scorpii.
