When the Moon is in its crescent phase (here the waxing crescent), you can see its nighttime side lit by earthlight, sunlight reflected by the Earth, creating a glorious sight in a dark blue evening twilight sky. Note that the waxing crescent, seen in the west, faces down and to the right toward the already-set Sun, opposite the direction seen for the rising waning crescent seen in the morning at dawn. |
