CLASSICAL STAR ATLASES

BODE'S VIRGO AND LIBRA

Virgo (the Maiden) and Libra (the Scales) from Johannes Bode's Uranographia of 1801. Part of Hydra appears below Virgo. The celestial equator runs across the center of the picture, while the ecliptic runs from right center to lower left. The modern constellation "Turdus Solitarius" (the Solitary Thrush), below Libra, is no longer recognized.
