CLASSICAL STAR ATLASES

BAYER'S LEO

Leo, the Lion, from Bayer's Uranometria of 1603. The horizontal dashed line is the ecliptic, while the broad dark band shows the region in which the Moon and planets can be found. The first magnitude star Regulus (Alpha Leonis) marks the Lion's heart, while Denebola (Beta Leonis) is found at the end of the tail. The head of Hydra, the Water Serpent, appears at lower right.
