8 May, 1998.  With its increased resolution, The Mars Global
Surveyor has recorded vast tracts of dusty valleys, cratered
plains, layered rock structures, and dry lake beds, revealing an
eerily Earthlike terrain.  Surveyor also detected a fossil magnetic
field apparently from the time when the Martian core was still hot
and capable of producing a global field.
