02 February, 1998. Evidence for massive black holes at the centers
of galaxies continues to build. Velocity measures by the Hubble
Space Telescope indicate a black hole in the galaxy M 84 in the
Virgo cluster with a mass 300 million times that of the Sun. A
close-up image of the nucleus of NGC 6251 seems to show a bare
black hole whose immediate surroundings are illuminating a
surrounding orbiting disk.
