03 February, 1998. Data from the SOHO spacecraft demonstrate that the corona of the Sun is heated to its two million Kelvin level by magnetism. The Sun appears to be covered by intense, small-scale magnetic fields, a "magnetic blanket," that constantly short- circuits, sending energy into the surrounding coronal gases.
